KBANZSL

Aims

This KBANZSL project aims to:

• Provide a free, open access, web based, school library knowledge bank which will guide practitioners and researchers to documents, collections and other resources for, and about, Australian and New Zealand school libraries and teacher librarianship;
• Advance knowledge and encourage further research into school libraries and teacher librarianship in Australia and New Zealand;
• Provide a comprehensive overview and record of the collective memory and narrative of school libraries and teacher librarianship in Australia from 1900; and
• Support advocacy, professional development, leading and managing, learning and teaching for school libraries and teacher librarianship in Australia and New Zealand.

Scope:

Establishing clear parameters as early as possible was a critical step in resource gathering and identifying resources. The team established the following parameters for resources to be included in the KBANZSL:

• Australian and New Zealand scholarly and professional literature, data sets, books, reports, standards, guidelines, policy statements, white papers, audio-visual materials including film, video and photographs, and other resources related to government and non-government school libraries and teacher librarianship in Australia from 1900;
• International guidelines and policies which have influenced, or had direct impact on, Australian and New Zealand school libraries and teacher librarianship; for example, from organisations such as UNESCO, IFLA, and IASL;
• Literature guides, thesauri and indexes relevant to Australian and New Zealand school libraries and teacher librarianship; and
• Organisations including professional associations, educational institutions and courses, and peak bodies related to Australian and New Zealand school libraries and teacher librarianship.

Outside Scope:

Outside the scope of the KBANZSL are:

• International scholarly and professional literature, data sets, reports, standards, guidelines, policy statements, white papers and other resources not directly related to Australian and New Zealand school libraries and teacher librarianship, including resources which primarily focus on international school libraries and teacher librarianship;
• Scholarly and professional literature and other resources on topics and areas relevant to school libraries but which do not directly relate to them, or do not include mention of school libraries or teacher librarianship; for example general works on literacy, language acquisition, children’s and young adult literature, technology which are not applied to the school library or address teacher librarians or teacher librarianship or the application of these to school library practice; and
• Comprehensive coverage: there will be limits in capacity to guarantee comprehensive coverage of all aspects of the knowledge nodes.
