Image Archive
A collection of historical images of children and teenagers using public/school libraries in Australia and New Zealand.
Please note: The research team has reviewed the copyright status of these images and believe they fall within accepted use for this project. A link to the original holdings for each of these images is provided. Prior to use or reproduction of any of these images, users of KBANZSL must consult the original source to check that the intended use for the image aligns with the relevant copyright requirements. These requirements can differ depending upon licencing.
Works are displayed in this archive based on the following information from Australian Libraries and Archives Copyright Coalition:
Works are generally protected for the life of the creator plus 70 years. ‘Life of the creator’ means ‘the end of the calendar year in which the creator died’ eg. If the author of a literary work died in June 2005 the posthumous copyright protection applies for 70 years starting from 31 December 2005.
Crown copyright is any original works, sound recordings or films:
- made by the state
- made under the direction or control of the state or
- first published in Australia by the state.
The copyright duration for Crown Copyright material – any original works, sound recordings or cinematograph films made by the state, made under the direction or control of the state or first published in Australia by the state – is 50 years after they were created.
Therefore the ownership of the work determines in many cases whether or not items are still within copyright. If any images in the gallery are displayed in error, please contact us via the details on the About page.
